The Secretary visits Rwanda and Nairobi

01. Rwanda

The Secretary of the Congregation, Mgr. Zani visited Kigali (Rwanda) and Nairobi (Kenya) from 25th of November to 2nd of December 2019. 

In Kigali (Rwanda), on the November 27th, Mgr. Zani during the International Symposium "École Catholique en Afrique francophone: L'urgence de la promotion de l'éducation à la paix, à la reconciliation et à l'environnement" gave a conference entitled: "L’École Catholique au service de l’Homme". The symposium was attended by several Bishops from many African countries (Rwanda, Congo, DRC, Cameroon, Burundi) along with other priests and professors (about 25 people). Other lecturers came from Germany and Belgium. Subsequently, the Secretary of the Dicastery chaired the Eucharistic celebration and gave the homily.

In the evening the Rectors of four universities (The Catholic University of Central Africa, the Catholic University of West Africa, the Catholic University of Congo - Yaoundé and the Catholic University of Rwanda) presented their institutions and then have signed an agreement which also will be signed by the University of Louvaine in Belgium. It’s oriented so search for a funding for the scholarships for studies of catholic education. The following day, November 28, after the morning lectures, the participants visited the memorial on the genocide in Rwanda.

In Nairobi (Kenya), on the afternoon of November 29, Mgr. Zani presented the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium to the Rectors and Deans of the Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties of Africa and Madagascar. Subsequently, the Secretary of the Dicastery presided over the Eucharistic celebration in the chapel in the presence of the Grand Chancellors, the Bishops, along with the priests, religious men and women who attend the university. 

On the morning of the following day, November 30, Mgr. Zani explained the Instruction on "Studies of Canon Law in the light of the reform of the marriage process" and the circular letter for the implementation of Veritatis Gaudium. Furthermore, His Excellency presented the message of Pope Francis for the launch of the "Global Educational Pact" and invited the institutions to participate through local initiatives.

In the afternoon, the Secretary of the Dicastery met the professors of the CUEA, Tangaza College and Hekima College and briefly presented the new Apostolic Constitution and insisted on the essential role of the teachers, their preparation and important mission.
